Ace was a "take me or leave me" kind of guy. So was Smoker, so the marine understood. He didn't like it, he didn't really accept it but he didn't accept most things about the brat so why should one more make a difference? He couldn't accept the Whitebeard tattoo, the loyalty to a pirate emperor, or that Ace was determined to make Whitebeard the Pirate King even though his own little brother sought that title for himself.

Smoker wished he could either change or ignore the brat's family though. Garp with his "Grandson-in-law!" every time their ships passed, Dragon -- the man trying to coax countries to rebel against the World Government for the sake of chaos, Blackbeard who wanted the brat dead, and Luffy, whom Smoker still insisted on chasing over the Grandline to capture and bring to trial.

But then without his family, Portgas wouldn't be the brat he is, and Smoker would be a lot more bored than he cared to admit.
