Title: Always Been Mine
Rating: K
Media: Fic
Characters: Bell-mère, Nami, Luffy (LuNa, if you wish)
Word Count: 296
Prompt: Justice
A/N: Just saying, this was amazingly fun to write. But how did it turn out so shippy-feeling?
Some laundry days Bell-mère would pull out her big coat to clean. Nami always remembered that coat. Big as the world and white as snow, it was decorated with soft-as-silk tassels and gold buttons that glimmered like gems. It was her mother’s fanciest attire; therefore, she was never allowed to touch it. But she could always look at it.
One day, she noticed the writing on the back.
“Bell-mère-san, what does that say?”
The woman paused in clipping up one of Nojiko’s shirts, glancing to where her daughter’s eyes were staring with such fascination. “That?” She said, putting the clothespin in place. “It says ‘Justice’.”
That's a very adult word. Nami remembered thinking. “What does that mean?”
Bell-mère hesitated in the way she often did when she needed to think of how to explain hard things to her. “You know what a hero is right?”
She nodded. Every kid knew what those were!
“And what do heroes do?”
Nami glanced at her mother, wondering if hero was a very child word and when you got too old you forgot, so she kindly reminded her. “They beats bad guys.”
“Why?”
“Because bad guys are hurting good guys.”
“That’s right! That’s what justice is.”
Many years later, she would meet a man who understood ‘adult’ justice like her mother did but oddly not the ‘child’ hero she did.
“I don’t want to be a hero! Do you know what heroes are? Say there is a chunk of meat. Pirates will have a banquet and eat it but heroes will share it with other people. I want all the meat!”
Nami listened on, shaking her head at her captain who couldn’t be more wrong. “Idiot.” She whispered.
“DON’T YOU DARE MAKE MY NAVIGATOR CRY!!!”
“You’ve always been my hero.”
