Title: Firecracker Rumors
Rating: K+
Media: Fic
Characters: Koshiro, Zoro, Chopper
Word Count: 300
Prompt: Light 'Em Up
Koshiro had hoped he was not the type of person to fall to rumors, but even he was overcome with a sense of dread when he saw Roronoa Zoro’s name on his roster that school year.
Always late. Uninterested with schoolwork. A thug and a thief whose future rests with a prison cell.
Nothing good had ever been said.
And sure enough, by day one Zoro had: stumbled in twenty minutes late, excused it by saying the classroom moved itself, fell asleep, and picked a fight just outside his door.
Koshiro was certain his fifth period class would be the most hellish yet; likely, his view of the green-haired menace would not have been altered… if not for the fateful incident that same afternoon.
He was walking home when he heard a strange bray come from the neighboring forest. Shimotsuki was known for their blue-nosed reindeers, so the sound was nearly overlooked if not for the faint words that followed:
“Light ‘em up good, ya hear?”
When Koshiro investigated, he found three teenagers all gathered around an ensnared calf that was maliciously laced with a weave of firecrackers about to be lit.
He would have liked to say he intervened, but he never even made it into sight when a familiar ‘menace’ appeared from the trees, walloping the tormenters unconscious with nothing but a worn out kendo stick that snapped in half on the final blow before carefully unbinding the firecrackers and freeing the calf. Then Zoro left with only a dismayed grimace at his ruined training sword, never knowing his witness.
Therefore, he was mystified by the new kendo stick and invitation for free lessons left on his desk the following day.
As for his noble deed… well, Koshiro saw to it that a good rumor was finally heard.
