Title: At The Door
Rating: K
Media: Fic
Characters: Keeping it a surprise~
Word Count: 298
Prompt: Reunion
The moment the sign was flipped, he knew it was closing time. He rose from where he sat, lumbering slowly over to where his co-worker stood at the front door.
“All ready to go huh?” Yuta said, pushing open the door for him. “Well you get along then. I can take care of clean up.”
He gave a grateful tip of his head, stepping outside into the cooling night. He looked over his shoulder, seeing the many windows still emitting soft light and Yuta already at the shelves, properly arranging what their customers had undone that day.
He would have stayed to help but today was the day after all and he could not be late.
He made his way down the street and headed left as he always did. It was a path he’d walked every day for five years and could have done it blind – which was good because in his old age his sight was going anyways.
Even though this day was special, everything around him was the same as always. The delicious aromas of dinner being cooked came from Tirel’s restaurant. Rosetta was bringing in her flowers from the porch display. The cats were prowling the streets, gleaming eyes watching him warily as he passed by.
It was barely one meal’s sit down worth of time before he got to his destination: the place where the old feed store once stood. Nothing had ever been built in its place since it had burned down but still he came here every night and waited.
But today was the day his wait ended.
He laid down where the front door had been, letting his eyes fall shut. It wasn’t long before he felt a hand on his head and heard a familiar praise:
“Good boy Shushu.”
