People were often compared to trees, and life to its growth. A firm trunk indicated a sense of security; lush leaves were wholesomeness; flowers were happiness.
Robin’s tree had never blossomed.
Even in her childhood, she had been a sprout smaller than the rest, poking out her head tentatively, curious yet afraid of the world around her. The elements had battered her, called her freak and monster, and she had curled in upon herself, trying to hide. They had found her anyway.
The fires of her homeland came and left, leaving her withered and blackened. Or maybe they never left, for the flames followed her no matter how far she tried to run.
Until she met them. Her friends, her nakama, her family.
Zoro, steadfast and unshakeable, was the earth, the firm presence that she could rely on.
Sanji, loving and protective, was water, diligently showering her with love every day.
Nami, brilliant and strong, was the one who chased away the weeds that threatened to smother her.
Chopper, sweet and trusting, was nourishment, giving her strength to grow healthy and strong.
Usopp, sincere and observant, was the gardener, balancing everyone’s moods, cheering her up with his fancy stories.
And Luffy… Luffy was the sun.
They gave her the means to heal her soul, shed off those shriveled leaves. To grow as she should have. And finally, finally, new leaves and shy buds were twirling into existence on her bare branches.
As she smiled her first real smile in a long, long time, she idly wondered what kind of flower would blossom.

I feel a little bad about comparing Nami to weed-killer... but it was too appropriate to resist. *hides*
