Title: To the Sea, to the Wind - I entrust you with the Fire

I'd like to ask the mods to add a character tag for Jinbei if possible.


A white line stood in the sea, sharp against the clouds, drawn with a quill and a ruler on a map. Few locals had ever passed the gate to leave.

The town’s people danced in the streets, careless about the storm sweeping over them.  The dam erected around their island, an important Marine outpost, had been protecting them for centuries from outside forces. Tonight they would celebrate and drink, dance and cheer, to this anniversary of their protector’s victory. Countless paper lanterns hung on the houses’ facades, bathing every surface into flickering red as the wind tugged on their lines.

The rain stopped falling. A large, blue hand was holding a matching, giant umbrella. Laughter, cheers, and shrieking came from down the hill.

“Hello, Luffy-kun.”

The fishman sat beside his captain, shielding them from the worst of the rain. The drops pattered onto the umbrella, falling in strings from the edges. His other hand settled a lantern on his knee.

“You are thinking of Ace.”

Luffy stayed silent. His eyes were in shadow, facing the ocean, the rest of his face as still as stone, as water dropped from the edge of his strawhat. Jinbei lifted his free arm, pulling the young human against his side. Luffy, cold before, stiffened against his warmth; he turned towards his friend who gave him the lantern.

With shaking hands, he offered it to the air.

A warm squall washed over them, tugging at the umbrella as if to tease Jinbei. Stalls fell, bonfires roared, and the lantern took wing. First slowly, soon it rushed down, flew across town, across the ships, the shallow waters behind the dam.

Climbing the dam to soar beyond the walls.

They watched the ember until it vanished in the line where ocean and sky blend into each other.
