Summary: The old generation will inevitably pass on...
Into That Good Night
They gave their lives without hesitation. One for his boys. The other for his men. Both for the future.
It wasn't hard, but to hear the anguished cries of the boys behind them, the furious roars of their men around them...it almost made them turn back. Almost. The world was waiting for the boys: friends to be made, adventures to be had, prizes to gained. No, it wasn't hard at all.
They were unsurprised to see him waiting for them. The flashy red coat draped across his shoulders. The wide fearless smile spread across his face. He greeted them casually, a bottle of rum swinging from one hand.
Took you two long enough.
They answered back just as casually, emptying their vast reservoirs of insults for their old enemy and dear friend to which he only laughed. That same bellowing baritone that had rippled across the seas all the way to his execution platform.
He draped his arms across their shoulders as they made their way to the distant shore across the dark sea. They traded insults and old stories and laughed and left without regret.
Didn't I tell you? The world belongs to them now.
Yeah I know. Feels funny, though, leaving like this.
They'll be alright. It's already begun and they're ready.
We should go. Everyone's waiting for us.
And so, three legends passed on. And the boys left behind, blinded by their tears and shaking with sobs but getting to their feet and standing tall against the storm, the future was theirs now.
At first I was going to have the reunion between Rayleigh and Roger, but I figured people that fought as long as Roger, Garp, and Whitebeard have would have just as strong a bond and it somehow became more about them leaving rather than meeting but it kind of fits the current theme of OP which is the new generation taking the old generation's place.
BTW, we need a Whitebeard tag ASAP!
