A/N: This is sort of a sequel to this fic, which was written for 30_onepiece back in round 1, for the prompt Price. I got a lot of comments on it to the effect of, "Don't worry, Sanji, Chopper and Franky can fix it!" so I thought, why not? XD
 

 

Chopper and Franky watched anxiously as their patient woke from the anesthesia. The operation had been long and painstaking, taking all their combined medical and mechanical knowledge, and now it was time to see the results. They both knew what failure meant.

It would mean they had failed their nakama.

Building the hands had been no problem, of course. Franky had built his whole body, so single parts were easily accomplished. But it was Chopper’s job, attaching those hands not to mechanical arms as Franky had, but to living tissue and nervous system, that was the difficult part. The doctor had worked long hours trying to figure out the best way to get the hands to respond like natural appendages. In theory, this would work. But they were terrified of what would happen in practice.

Sanji’s eye slowly fluttered open, and he looked up at the little reindeer. “Chopper?” he asked groggily.

“Yeah, it’s me. How do you feel?”

The cook pushed himself up onto his elbows and half-chuckled. “Nervous.” He glanced down at his news hands with apprehension. Hands that were no longer flesh and bone, but wires and metal casing.

“You’re not the only one,” said Franky reassuringly. “Are you ready to give it a try?”

Sanji closed his eye, took a deep breath, and then nodded. He sat all the way up and held the right hand in front of his face.

There was a very tense moment as the appendage was completely still, and then the fingers curled into a fist.

Responding oh-so-beautifully.

Chopper and Franky’s joyous tears were suddenly flooding the floor of the infirmary.

Sanji beamed and used the left hand to wipe his own away.
