The cooks were still coming to him with the news that he was back. Like they’d expected him to run out there with open arms. They didn’t do things that way.
His plan was to continue cooking for their hungry customers and pick up the slack for his now absent help. Wait for the boy to come to him and tell what, if anything, he’d found on his adventure to this point.
“WHAT!? YOU’RE MARRIED?!” Came a combined shout from the deck.
Zeff removed the pan from the heat and turned off the burner before wiping his hands.
It had been years, going out to greet the boy was the least he could do.
On deck he watched as his cooks violently tried to wish Sanji their congratulations. He hadn’t grown much but seemed older, more mature.
Suddenly he realized a familiar red headed navigator was next to him, watching him watch the boy with a smile.
“You married him?”
“Yep.”
“Are you some kind of idiot?”
“I always knew it was contagious.” She sighed with a grin.
Sanji spotted Zeff and made his way out of the crowd to stand awkwardly in front of him.
“Hey old man…I’m back.”
“So it seems.” They stood silently for a moment and just before Sanji opened his mouth to speak, Zeff noticed the absence of a certain cloud of smoke and turned to the boy’s wife. “How’d you convince him to drop that smoking habit of his?”
She exchanged a secret grin with Sanji.
“It wasn’t for me.”
Sanji looped his arms around her waist and gently rubbed her belly’s now visible telltale bulge, while he kissed her neck.
“You know, All Blue is a beautiful place to raise a family. How’d you feel about coming with us and being a grandpa?”

I don't know if I ever told you about this, but I've always wanted an excuse to write a scene in modern AU where Nami's having Sanji's baby and he's nervously sitting outside in the waiting room, and he's trying to quit smoking for the baby so he's vigorously chewing five pieces of nicorette gum. XP
