A/N: This is AU, Sanji is younger than he should be, and WARNING MASSIVE CUTE SUGARINESS and apparently Sanji has trouble with his silent E's. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

Dear Crap-geezer,

We had to mak Mother’s Day cards, but sens I don’t got one of thos, I hav to giv it to you. Even tho youre a crusty old man and NOT a mother. This is to show I car about you and stuff.

From this, there was a line drawn to something that had been added around the outside edge of the heart-shaped card.

Not that I car or anything. I just needed a grad.

Zeff snorted at this and continued reading.

On the next line, there was something that had been furiously scribbled out and then, in the same sloppy handwriting as the rest of the card,

Sanji

The chef raised an eyebrow and looked at his apprentice over the top of the card. The boy was shuffling awkwardly on his feet, eye glued firmly on something to the right of Zeff’s feet.

“It’s not Father’s Day,” he said flatly.

Sanji scowled, looking at him now that there was familiar hostility. “I know,” he said, the word dripping in “duh,” “but I had to write to someone or I wouldn’t get the grade.”

Zeff barked a laugh and tossed the card dismissively onto his desk. “Well, next time, write to someone else, okay, Eggplant? Now get back to work!”

“Hmph!” He whirled on his heel and tried to stomp out of the office, which was an amusing thing for a seven-year-old to do. “See if I ever do anything nice for you again!”

“I don’t want you to, anyway!” Zeff called after him.

But, even years later, Zeff would occasionally take out the old heart-shaped card and look over the sloppy handwriting and childish spelling with a small smile, one that grew when he concentrated on the scribble and saw, just faintly beneath, the word, “Love.”
