Comments: Ahhh, it's been a long while. :D AM MISSING THE STRAWHATS. ;A; This was the by-product of my pining. 8D

Summary: They all knew that Luffy was a nut-case. It was partly why they had such faith in him. After all, the Grand Line’s general rule-of-thumb appeared to be: Be crazy. It works.

Routine

The future Pirate King’s ship was never quiet after breakfast.

Having been punted out by Sanji, the crew dispersed for the morning about the Thousand Sunny. Luffy settled into his spot, babbling animatedly to his usual audience. His lively chatter had long since become a part of their mornings.

“— it’s not fair for Sanji to kick! Not that it hurt—”

Sanji stuck his head out of the galley, screaming in indignance about missing steak.

“—EH?! HOW CAN ANYONE HAVE LESS MEAT?—”

“— I’LL DIE WITH LESS—”

Luffy gesticulated in dismay to the only person bothering to pay any attention. It wasn’t long before he was side-tracked, and the chatter continued until Sanji’s call signalled for lunch.

Luffy! LUNCH!”

There was an expectant pause.

“Can Ace come?”

As usual, in the split second that followed—Zoro tightened his grip on Wadō — Nami’s glance shifted towards her mikan trees — Usopp’s fingers brushed against his pouch — Sanji returned to the galley, an extra plate already in hand — Chopper straightened his hat and beamed — Franky patted one of Sunny’s rails fondly — and Brook clutched his violin tightly in a skeletal embrace.

It was Robin who broke the brief spell this time.

“Of course he can. You’ll join us, won’t you, Ace-san?” she smiled, giving Luffy a light shove towards the galley.

Luffy grinned at the invisible presence to his left and, shouting “RACE YOU THERE!”, broke into a sprint.

The Strawhats, laughing and grumbling, followed their captain, waiting to catch him the second he showed any sign of tripping over thin air like the idiot he was.

It had been eight months, seventeen days, thirteen hours and counting since the Marineford incident, but the wait was inconsequential.

There was space enough on-board for another loss.

Another recovery (acceptance).

A/N: Personally, I don't see this going down in canon. Luffy's way stronger than this, unless Oda desires severe mutilating for committing some serious character butchering. I just figured that, if Luffy decided to slip into denial (WHICH HE WON'T, BECAUSE I'LL BE DEPRESSED AS HELL), this would probably be it. ... This self-defeating habit of depressing myself has Got. To. Stop. D:

Totally pimping some fic here

XD I LOVE THIS FANDOM TOO. SO MUCH AWESOME.

Count on Zoro to completely understand what Luffy is thinking, and Robin and Franky to do the mature, cautious and understanding thing.

Anyway, that fic.
It's currently the one long work in progress she's got there—Absence (http://serrende.livejournal.com/30039.html)

Basic plot is the Straw Hats run into serious trouble on an island and one of the crew dies in the fight, suddenly and unexpectedly, with nothing anyone could do about it. Luffy goes on to "forget" this person ever existed (it's rather strange and interesting how he manages to translate mentions of said person by the rest of the crew into "gibberish," for example) and the rest of the Straw Hats are left to pull themselves (and Luffy) back together.

It's a really one of those fics I'd term "true angst," (another term being mentioned for it is "grief-fic.") I guess another, more traditional term could be "tragedy," but it's... not quite, I don't know, it's so much more than that, and tragedy implies that everything goes horribly wrong at the end of the story, and doesn't seem like it'll be like that. It's very depressing, true, but it she writes so well.... And frankly, I find it interesting to see how they all try to deal with it and what the consequences of this person dying are, beyond merely the sadness of it.

The one good thing about it is, to deal with the whole Ace thing, it's set in an AU where Ace didn't die; things were not so bad at Marineford. (Small comfort some may say that that it is when somebody else is dead instead. XD) Anyway, yeah... check it out if you like. You may want to bring tissues, tho. ^^;; And remember it's still unfinished, but it is being worked on and there's quite a bit there already.
