The papers in front of him lay there, taunting. Apparently, as a commander he was in charge of acquisitions for the second division. How many pounds of flour would they need to procure in order for nobody to starve before the next port? How much toilet paper? What about ammunitions: of the cannon and gun varieties?
Ace cursed himself for ever having decided that school was useless.
Multiplication just wasn’t easy, dammit!
Okay, each person aboard would probably use up to a full roll of toilet paper. So… how many people were aboard the second division’s ship: 312? Okay. Three hundred and twelve rolls of toilet paper to be purchased.
Simple enough.
Probably would be a better idea to ask the cooks how much flour they needed for the next month instead of guessing himself. And, look here: a note from the cooks! A request for five hundred pounds of flour?! What the hell were they making in the kitchens to use up that much flour in a single month?
Ace didn’t really want to think about that so he quickly wrote the numbers down quickly on the acquisition forms Marco had passed to him after breakfast.
Ammunition now. Shit.Okay, he could do this. He did have a moderate understanding of multiplication and division: He just couldn’t do it easily.
First, remember how many gunners there are on the second division’s ship.
That was seventy or so, right?
Then, he just needed to give each gunner a good amount of ammunition for the month. Say around six hundred bullets for each sharpshooter, and forty cannon-balls for each cannon.
Ace stared at the numbers written down and wondered what came next.
He hated math.
