An odd side effect of certain devil fruits was that they gave the user cravings that complimented them.
When it came to Smoker's addiction, he came across rather strong objections by some prospective lovers, but Ace was one of the few people who didn't mind it, unaffected by the clouds of smoke he breathed and the strong, almost chemical, flavour of his kisses. If anything, it was something he savoured; smoke was the constant companion of the pyromaniac after all. Always eager for the familiar and comforting tastes, he often drove Smoker to the point of despair with his endless consumption. Perhaps it was a craving that was a result of Ace's own fruit.
There was one thing that Ace couldn't stand the taste of however. It had taken Smoker a while to figure it out. The younger man had a tendency to come and go under the cover of darkness, and so he had yet to come across another substance that Smoker relied on.
But through coincidence, he arrived one morning, swaggering into Smoker's room as the commodore was enjoying his coffee. Not even giving the near-empty mug a glance, Ace descended upon Smoker and managed to coerce the marine into a kiss with 'charms' that never failed. Moments later, the young man recoiled with a retch of disgust as he stuck his tongue out and tried to rub a bitter flavour off his taste buds. Giving Smoker a confused and doleful look, Ace whined loudly in despair as he picked up the mug and drained it, swallowing the black coffee with an amused smirk. Finally, he found Ace's weakness.
It might not have been a forced desire brought about by his devil fruit, but Smoker found his morning coffee to be an absolute necessity after that day.
