Of course from the time he joined the Straw Hat pirates he had envisioned all this ending differently.
Maybe he would die in battle. Maybe he’d find All Blue at last…set up shop there. Or not…maybe he would never find it but continue to travel happily looking for it till the end of his days. Maybe Nami would fall for him at last and join him. Maybe they’d start a family.
He had a very loose idea of the ending for him.
But STILL he had been wrong.
A crashing of the world government was set in motion and suddenly there needed to be someone there to save the shaky alliances and prevent full scale war. Someone intelligent, benevolent, knowing about supply and demand, able to see the big picture and ready to make hard choices for the greater good.
That is how formerly Blackleg Sanji became the commander and number one of the world government. The crew left him in charge and continued on their own path many years ago.
He doesn’t ride ships looking for All Blue, now he commissions them, and fills them with dreamers in his stead. He spends more time behind a desk then a stove too. He isn’t with Nami…but with the Worlds Greatest Swordsman who had come back to him decades prior talking about the blond leader needing the best body guard or some shit like that.
It’s not how he pictured it at all.
He can see the world change nicely in his protection though.
The King of Pirates is out there still with a partially familiar crew that all owe him a visit soon.
And the damn marimo is slightly more tolerable in his golden years, warm at night, and smelling slightly of fulfilled dreams and ocean.
It’s a good life.
