Title: Decisions and Consequences

Character/s: Dragon

Pairings: Dragon/Political Uprising

Rating: PG (for the language)

Prompt: News

Word Count: 300

A/N: No clue what inspired me to write this or at all really. This is my first One Piece fic plus it’s selfbeta’ed so I hope it’s okay. If anyone’s got suggestions/corrections, I’d be happy to hear them. J

---

The world was insane.

He had discovered it all – that the Void Century was nothing more than a shameful cover up, that those who were supposed to protect the people only cared about their own interests, that they were all being played. And unlike the majority of the masses, he wasn’t going to sit back and take their shit.

No. Mokey D. Dragon had decided that someone needed to rip the blindfolds off the general public by giving the World Government a much-needed kick in its collective ass and he was just the man  to do it.

Almost twenty years had passed since his life’s course had been set and, as the World Government raged in fear, his dream got that much clearer with every country that shook off its shackles and stood tall in its defiance.

And in that time, his boy had grown up.

An orphan in a poor unremarkable backwater island, yes, but he’d been safe.

For all that his own father was the Marine Hero, he hadn’t trusted that the Authorities would understand that one didn’t become responsible for another’s actions just by being related, and leave his child alone.

Their bloody hunt for the Pirate King’s progeny would not be repeated.

Any news he got on his child’s development was extremely rare and usually very late, partly due the infrequency of Garp’s visits to the boy, partly due to his random changes of address but mostly because of the extreme secrecy necessary to keep all the parties involved hidden, but each and every one was treasured.

Even if he couldn’t be a part of it, his son would have a happy childhood.

He’d have a choice.

And now, Monkey D. Luffy was a man.

A pirate aiming for One Piece.

Grinning, Dragon left for Loguetown.

---

I firmly believe Dragon cares for Luffy so it couldn’t have been easy to give him to Garp to raise.

Oooh, I like this! ♥

Dragon is a father, too... And we know from Ivankov that he still cares about his son, or at least feels a connection to him, and this rings true. (And we know that Dragon approves very much of Luffy's decision to be a pirate!)

I really wonder what Dragon's relationship to Garp was/is like. Garp mentioned having talked to him, so it's not like they've cut all bonds, but... It's such an interesting family! XD

I agree with your theory!

Oh, Garp. It's a miracle he agreed to take care of children again after failing so spectacularly to make his son loyal to the government... And lo and behold, the same thing happened with Ace and Luffy. XD

...maybe if Garp tried to make a kid a pirate, they'd turn out to become the best Marine in history! XD

Probably not - it seems to be part of the D template to be honest and straight-forward! (Well. Kurohige has been known to be a sneaky bastard, but...)

Bwah! No, he'd better not be stuck with another baby. That'd be awesome horrible!

Coby and Helmeppo, though, they're probably exactly what he's always wanted in his boys, but never gotten before now. They don't just want to become strong, but they're motivated to become Marines! It was a lucky match.

Oh, I love this! And, yes, I agree that all indications are that Dragon cares deeply about his son. He might be planning on using him, too, but from the brief glimpses we've gotten of him, I believe he does have a father's heart.

The way you told this was lovely!

My only comment would be to write out "World Government" instead of "WG" - nobody says "WG" in canon, so it's a little jarring to see it being contracted like that.

That said, it really was a fantastic first fic! Thank you, and welcome to the comm. ♥ I'm really glad you decided to join the fun!

XXXXDDDDDD

Draaaagon &hearts

^^ I love him &hearts

Yay - thank you for joining in the fun! We were getting lonely.

And this is lovely!

The only beta-y thing I can think to add is that:

Their bloody hunt for the Pirate King’s progeny washed away all indecision.

This happened before Luffy was born, so rather than it "washing away indecision", it should maybe be more along the line of "Their bloody hunt for the Pirate King's progeny had proved that" - or something along those lines, the event being cited as an example of why Dragon doesn't think the WG will give his kid a chance, rather than cementing an already held belief...

Am I making sense? o_O

But GOOD JOB! Self-beta is scary and hard and this fic is so much fun!
