Prompt: Take a Stand

Author’s Note: I’m a little disappointed about Koby in OP 556, and hence that means there are spoilers for chapter 556 if you haven’t read it yet.

I’m afraid, he thought as beads of sweat slid down his face. Koby was so frightened about this entire battle that his hands shook. Koby wasn’t ready for this, and he wasn’t strong enough to face these pirates just yet. And he was conflicted a little bit about the past actions of the Marines and the World Government.

 

A fellow marine fell near him in a splat of red. Koby yelped, leaping away in fright. A nasty little voice told him he wasn’t cut out to be a marine, the little chicken. And at this moment, Koby had to agree. He wasn’t able to fight valiantly yet, and he didn’t have the strength to take on Whitebeard’s crew. “Why am I here?” Koby whispered to himself as he took cover behind some fallen bit of stone wall. It felt like the seagull-anchor emblem on his back seemed to burn at his cowardice, but that was merely psychological association, that he was betraying what that emblem represented.

 

Helmeppo joined him behind the debris. They were both ghost-white, watching a seemingly slow version of the battle; complete with blood spurting and splatters and the agonized cries of pirate and marine alike. 'This is madness,' Koby shook.

And the Shichibukai In the pink feathers had said something about Justice. In this slaughter ground, there was no Justice.

Is there really Justice when blood stains the ground?

 

As Koby watched in horror, even he couldn’t stand up to run or fight. He stayed kneeling on the ground, as history unfolded itself in all of its bloody and horrific glory.
