Parenthood

You were never a child-friendly person. You spend half of your life in the Marines, surrounded by men and order and battles. When you finally do good on your word and retire, the last thing you expect was your old loud friend barging in and shoving a crying wriggling brat in your arms.

You suffer diapers, colic, endless crying and sleepless nights. Somehow the boy becomes more troublesome the older he grows. Burbles are replaced by impudent words and kicks are replaced with speeding legs that carry the brat as far from you as possible.

You adjust and life becomes bearable once the boy gets some sense. You two reach an understanding about food, bedtimes, and chores.

Then the other brat comes, dragged in by your dearest old friend who just grins at your foul expression and goes on his way. And your and the older brat's lives are thrown upside down.

The rubber boy with his straw hat is unmanageable. Dishes, pots, lamps, and furniture are smashed beyond repair, food vanishes before it even reaches the table, and he and the older one always fight. Violently. Every single moment of the day and night. You throw your hands up and curse the day that Garp brought them into your life.

Then you notice things like sniffles that only you can tend, cuts and bruises that only you can heal, and small hands that curl around yours whenever help is needed. As they grow, you notice with faint regret that they no longer need your help and go off without you to train. And you know they’ll do good on their words and leave for the seas.

Then the rubber boy comes to you and says,

“Me an’ Ace are gonna leave soon. But you’ll always be our mom!”

Shishishi! :) Yup, I went the unconventional route and made Dandan a woman! Well, we've never seen as much as a silhouette of him/her, so anything goes in my book!

Awwwwww~! Lovely characterization, and so sweet! I love the idea of Dadan as a woman! ♥ (But even if that turns out to be wrong - this is Luffy. Luffy would totally call guy!Dadan their mom, too. Just because.)
