Title: Nontraditional Aspects of Romance
Rating: G
Media: fic
Pairing/Characters: Luffy, in theory
Word Count: 300 on the dot
Prompt: Romance

Author notes: So...this story is about to OC's, never named, discussing romance in conjunction with Luffy. Probably not the way you're thinking, either.

It all began the day that she found her daughter reading a racy novel.

“I’m reading it for the romance, Mom!” she’d cried while her mom took the novel away. Her mom’s response was to give her a different book, one she described as chock full of romance.

So the teenager opened the book and read about some pirate named Monkey D Luffy, his extravagant adventures on the Grand Line, his ascension to the title of Pirate King. She scoffed at tales like Enies Lobby, Impel Down, and Marineford. After all, how could one boy do all the things this…Luffy…was credited with doing?

Those particular adventures were only exceeded by the outrageous stuff he supposedly did after crossing the Red Line. Freeing an entire dynasty of a thousand-year-old curse? Taking down two of the four Pirate Emperors and taking their place?

Toppling the World Government?!

What it did lack, however, was romance. Where were the swooning women, the heart-wrenching separations, the vows of unending fidelity?

So she called her mom on it.

“That was the greatest lack of romance I’ve ever read.”

“What makes you say that?”

She repeated her reasoning, word for word, to her mother.

“You’re operating under a false assumption, dear. Romance also refers to stories about heroic deeds or the life and world written about in these stories. It’s the call of freedom and dreams and the pursuit of them. It’s about doing things because you believe in them, not because you feel you should to fit in.”

Her daughter was silent. The talk was dropped.

The next time she caught her daughter reading a romance novel, it had a grinning face on the cover and was entitled, The Story of Freedom: True Stories of the Life of Pirate King Monkey D. Luffy.

End notes: So...the moral of the story is, random story is random. And Luffy changes the world, one teenager at a time. Yes.

That is all.

YES! EXACTLY!

Thank you for expressing my very thoughts on the American concept of romance! This was awesome!

My parents are very nonchalant about everything I read, even gay porn so I managed to avoid a lecture like this, more's the pity! :D

Yes Luffy, bring forth love of comrades and adventure and dreams! Mwahahaha!
