The Bad Side of Fame

 

Yay, another humor-based fic!  Well, with a prompt like this, did I have a choice? ;)

 

Usopp was on watch at the time.  He noted the sails in the distance and adjusted his sniper goggles.  Decorated skull and crossbones. He called down.

 

"We've got company!"

 

Nami looked up briefly from her newspaper.

 

"What? Again?"

 

By the time the pirates caught up with the Thousand Sunny, Nami, Zoro, and Usopp were already on deck to greet them.

 

The captain of the Death Hook pirates, Death Slayer Bob, swung his eponymous hook grandly and bellowed,

 

"Straw Hat Luffy, it is I, the Death Slayer here to bring you death!  Come out and fight! Let us see who is worthy of the title "King of the Pirates"!!"

 

"You mind keeping it down?  Our captain's trying to take a nap!"

 

Death Slayer Bob blinked.  This wasn't the usual reaction people had upon seeing him.

 

"Look," the orange-haired woman put one hand on her hip and stared down at him in annoyance, "Our captain may not mind fighting anyone or anything, but the fact is we can't afford any more delays.  I'll make this simple: either you and your crew hands over your treasure and beat it, or we sink your ship.  It's your choice."

 

"How dare you!" One of the Death Hooks bellowed, "Do you have any idea who you're dealing with?"

 

"Another punk pirate who wants to defeat the 7 billion berrie Straw Hat Luffy?  Now what's it gonna be?"

 

Death Slayer Bob had had enough.

 

"Attack!" He bellowed, throwing his hook up.

 

Nami had already pulled out her Climatact and sent a hurricane that capsized the enemy pirate vessel and sent it and its crew plunging into the sea.

 

"Honestly," she muttered, "This is getting ridiculous!  That’s the fifth one this week!”

 

"Hey guys!" Luffy bounced over to them from his hammock, "Anything interesting happen?"

 

"Nothing worth reporting."

 

I actually wrote a fic with characters other than the D-family?  Is the world coming to an end?  Well, I figured the Straw Hat crew would care more about the annoyances of being challenged by everyone and their uncle more than Luffy himself would!

Yeah, I really want Nami to get more kickass moments in OP since she seems to be on a DiD spree. She took on Enel and got out without a scratch, for Pete's sake!

I'm sure that Shanks and Whitebeard also have their share of punks like Ace coming after them to beat them and claim their titles. Now that Luffy seems to be becoming a power like them, it's only a matter of time before puffed up pirates go after him as well!

Hah, Ace! Though I don't think Ace was just after the bounty? We still have no idea why he was so stubborn about killing Shirohige!

Shirohige's reputation does scare off a lot off punks. Remember Buggy's reaction when he first met Ace? XD But you're probably right - it might attract as many luck-seekers as it scares off...
