He knew it the first time the kid laughed at him and shot fireballs at him then shoved him up against an Arabasta wall and touched him in ways that had nothing and everything to do with fire. He's always known.

Marines and pirates don't mix, and even when they do it doesn't last.

Some part of him didn't want to know. Never learned until--

Smoke and fire, logia so well matched even he's not sure which way a real fight would have gone. Fight fire with a different kind of fire.

Smoke is born of fire. Smoke begets ash.

Above ground, lava doesn't stay lava very long, and smoke... smoke can be patient when it needs to be.
